    FAQs on MDPE water pipe.

    What is MDPE water pipe?
Medium density polyethylene (MDPE) water pipe is a durable, flexible plastic pipe used for water supply applications.

While blue MDPE pipes are often used in underground water pipelines thanks to their resistance to high pressure and temperatures, this material isn’t UV stable. Black MDPE water pipes are stabilised, making them suitable for above ground applications.

The MDPE pipe colour indicates its intended use. Blue MDPE is typically used for potable mains water supply, whereas black MDPE can be used for non-potable water systems such as irrigation.

As well as being able to withstand high pressure and temperature variations, MDPE pipe is resistant to corrosion and chemicals, making it an excellent option for carrying and distributing water.

Blue MDPE water pipe is typically used for potable (drinkable) water supply, while black MDPE is more commonly used for industrial and commercial applications, such as sewage and irrigation.
MDPE stands for medium density polyethylene, whereas HDPE refers to high density polyethylene. These materials have different properties making them suited to different applications. For example, MDPE pipe is more flexible so works better in tight spaces, but HPDE has higher impact resistance so would be preferable for uses like protective cable ducting.
